This
book was recommended to me by my 5th grade teacher and I love that
she recommended this to me because I had read it in her classroom, and she had
mentioned how this is one of her all-time favorites. When I reread this book, it was obvious to me
why she loves this book so much. The
main character, Ruby is such a strong female character. The setting of this book takes place during
the times of segregation and Ruby is one of the first African American girls to
attend school. When I read this book I instantly though about the Martin Luther King Jr book I read in high school. What I love most about
this book is as you read it you can really feel sympathy to Ruby and the
hardships she is facing. Additionally, this
book is based on a true story so it just adds such a different feel to the mood of the story.
